Saving Diary is built around a simple idea: your records are yours. Without an account, the records you log stay on your device. Creating one is what places a copy on our servers. This policy explains what that changes, what else we collect, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Saving Diary ("Saving Diary", "we", "us") is operated by Reksa Studio, based in Indonesia. We are the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. This website is a marketing site; almost all data processing happens inside the Saving Diary mobile app, and most of it never leaves your device.

Where your data lives

Saving Diary is a local-first app. Your transactions, wallets, categories, labels, budgets, savings goals, and loan trackers are stored in a database on your own device. There is no bank connection and no automatic import. You log what you spend, and that record is yours.

Creating an account is what changes this. An account exists so your records can follow you between devices, so from the moment you register, a copy of those same records is held on our servers and kept in step with your app. An account is optional and the app is complete without one.

That copy belongs to the account rather than to a plan. It is there for as long as the account is, including if you move from Premium back to the free plan, and deleting the account is what removes it. Keeping more than one device in step, and shared wallets, are the parts of this that Premium unlocks.

Shared wallets work the same way: the transactions in a wallet you share are visible to the people you share it with.

Where a copy is held on our servers, it sits on managed infrastructure operated for us by a third-party cloud provider, under contract, and is used only to provide Saving Diary to you.

Information we collect

We collect only what the app needs to work. That means:

  • An anonymous identifier, granted automatically when you install the app so it can talk to our servers when it needs to. It is not linked to your name, your email, or your phone number, and it is created without you doing anything.
  • Account information, if you choose to claim an account: the email address you register with and an authentication record. This is optional, and the app works fully without it.
  • The financial records you log: your transactions, wallets, categories, labels, budgets, savings goals, and loan trackers. Without an account these stay on your device and we never receive them. With an account, a copy of the same records is held on our servers.
  • Device and usage data: app version, device type, language, and basic analytics and crash diagnostics that help us keep the app working.
  • Support messages: anything you send us through the forms on this website or by email, along with the page you sent it from and your browser's user agent.

This website does not require an account. It sets one cookie, and only if you choose a language yourself in the language switcher, to remember that choice.

How we use your information

  • To run the app and, where you have an account, to keep your records in step across your devices.
  • To build the reports and budgets you see, entirely from what you logged. Nothing is guessed or inferred for you.
  • To show a shared wallet to the people you shared it with.
  • To manage your subscription status and the trial.
  • To provide support and respond to your requests.
  • To keep the app secure, diagnose problems, and improve the product using aggregate, non-identifying insights.

We do not sell your personal information, and we never use your financial records for advertising.

Why we are allowed to process it

Where data protection law requires a legal basis for processing, these are the ones we rely on:

  • To perform our agreement with you: running the app, holding the copy your account carries and keeping it in step, showing a shared wallet to its members, managing your subscription, and answering your support requests.
  • Our legitimate interests in keeping Saving Diary secure, diagnosing faults, preventing abuse, and improving the product through aggregate, non-identifying insights.
  • Your consent, where the law requires it before we use analytics or advertising identifiers. You can withdraw it in your device settings, and withdrawing it does not affect what we did while it was given.
  • Compliance with a legal obligation, where we are required to keep or disclose certain records.

We are the controller for this processing. Where the Indonesian Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 27 of 2022) applies, we rely on the equivalent bases it sets out and act as the controller it defines.

Sync and shared wallets

Without an account, your records exist only on your device. Creating one places a copy on our servers and keeps it in step, and deleting the account removes that copy. The copy on your phone is untouched either way.

Keeping devices in step means the app reconciles edits made in more than one place, and the most recent change to a record is the one kept. Sync is a convenience rather than a guarantee of durability, so keep a backup of anything you cannot afford to lose.

A shared wallet is one wallet. The people you share it with can see and add to that wallet, and nothing else. Wallets you have not shared stay yours alone, and leaving a shared wallet ends your access to it while your own records stay exactly as they were.

Transactions you added to a wallet you shared stay with that wallet for its other members after you leave it or delete your account, because they are part of a record those members hold too. Everything outside that wallet goes with your account.

Advertising

The free plan shows ads through Google AdMob. The ads are non-personalised. Ad providers may collect device identifiers and general usage signals in order to serve and measure them, subject to your device's advertising settings.

They do not receive your transactions, wallets, budgets, goals, loans, or any amount you have logged. Premium removes ads entirely.

Backups

The app can back your records up to your own cloud drive. That backup is created by you, stored in your account with that provider, and controlled entirely by you. We do not hold it and cannot read it.

How your data is shared

We share personal information only in these limited cases:

  • With the people you have shared a wallet with, limited to the transactions in that wallet.
  • With service providers who process data on our behalf under contract, in categories such as cloud database, authentication, and storage; analytics and crash reporting; subscription management; advertising on the free plan; and our support workspace. They may only use the data to provide their service to us.
  • With the app stores, Apple and Google, when you buy a subscription, since payments are processed by them and not by us.
  • Where required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users, the public, or Saving Diary.
  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you and this policy will continue to apply.

Payments

Subscriptions are purchased and processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not collect or store your payment card details. The stores share limited transaction information with us so we can manage your subscription status.

Data retention and deletion

Records stored only on your device are kept for as long as the app is installed. Deleting the app deletes them, so keep a backup of anything you cannot afford to lose.

Where you have an account, we keep the copy we hold for as long as that account exists or as needed to provide the app. To delete your account and that copy, write to [email protected]. We complete the deletion within 30 days, except where we must keep certain records to comply with legal obligations, and except for transactions in wallets you shared, which stay with those wallets as described above.

To keep the service sustainable, we may delete or anonymise data and close accounts that have been inactive for an extended period. Where practical and appropriate, we may try to reach you before doing so, but we are not required to.

Security

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect your data, including encryption in transit, encryption at rest on the managed infrastructure that holds the copy, and access controls on our databases. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to limit access to it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

If you never registered, there is nothing on our side to delete: uninstalling the app removes everything.

Children

Saving Diary is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including wherever our cloud providers operate. Where we transfer personal data out of a region that restricts it, we rely on an approved transfer mechanism, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses, and we contract with our providers on that basis so it stays protected in line with this policy and applicable law.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date on this page, and where appropriate we may also notify you through the app or a notice on our website.
