What you are doing
The spreadsheet was fine until week three.
A sheet can do nearly everything this app does, right up until the evening you do not open it. Logging here takes about five seconds, on the phone that is already in your hand.
Nobody quits a spreadsheet because it was wrong.
They quit because it lives on a laptop, at home, at the end of a day, and the receipt was four days ago. The arithmetic was never the hard part. Turning up was.
- It lives on a laptop and the spending happens everywhere else
- A week behind turns into a week you never catch up
- The formulas break and nobody rebuilds them
Start from today, not from January.
Backfilling is what killed the last sheet. A month of entries from here is worth more than a year of rows you never finish.
1
Log today and let the picture build.
Nothing has to be reconstructed. After a week you can see the shape, and after a month you can do something about it.
2
Use categories instead of columns.
Name them what you actually call them. The report groups by them without a formula, and it never breaks.
3
Let the report do the sheet's job.
By category, by wallet, by week, and against last month, built from what you logged and nothing else.
What replaces which column.
Four parts of the app cover what most sheets were doing, without the evening spent updating them.
FAQ
Good to know.
Can I import my spreadsheet?
There is no spreadsheet import. Starting from today is usually faster than fixing a year of rows, and the picture is just as useful after a month of real entries.
What does it do that a sheet does not?
It is on the phone you actually spend with, it works with no signal, and the report is already built. A sheet's advantage was that you could shape it. This one's is that you open it.
Do I have to log everything?
No. Log what you want a picture of. A month of the big things is worth more than three weeks of every last coffee and then nothing at all.
Other ways people use it
Whatever your month looks like, it starts the same way.
